
The number of digital pay-TV service subscribers in Eastern Europe will grow by 23 percent to 78.08 million by 2023, according to a study from Digital TV Research. The figure totaled 61.57 million at the end of 2017 and 25.49 million in 2010. About 20 million customers still used analogue cable TV services at the end of 2017, according Telecompaper. Russia will account for half of the region’s pay TV subscribers base in 2023, even though it will lose 1.5 million pay TV subscribers between 2017 and 2023. It will not be the only one: the number of pay TV subscribers will fall in 10 of the 22 countries covered in the study, between 2017 and 2023.
Pay-TV revenues in Eastern Europe peaked at USD 6.53 billion in 2017 and will slowly fall to USD 6.33 billion by 2023. Analogue cable revenues will drop by USD 1 billion over this period, while digital pay-TV revenues will increase by USD 769 million to USD 6.25 billion.
