Cisco is continuing its expansion in the security market with the acquisition of Duo Security for USD 2.35 billion, according Telecompaper. Based in Michigan, Duo Security provides unified access security and multi-factor authentication delivered through the cloud. Its software verifies the identity of users and the health of their devices before granting them access to applications, helping prevent cybersecurity breaches.
Cisco plans to integrate its network, device and cloud security platforms with Duo Security’s zero-trust authentication and access products. Cisco already provides on-premises network access control via its Identity Services Engine (ISE). Duo’s software as a service- model will be integrated with Cisco ISE to extend ISE to provide cloud-delivered application access control. In addition, Duo will add trusted identity awareness to Cisco’s Secure Internet Gateway, Cloud Access Security Broker, Enterprise Mobility Management, and several other cloud-delivered products.
The acquisition is expected to close during Cisco's fiscal first quarter to October. Duo Security will continue to be led by co-founder and CEO Dug Song, as part of Cisco’s Networking and Security business. Started eight years ago, Duo Security counts over 12,000 customers and 700 employees.
