Connex Vodafone has invested over US$550,000 in initiatives aimed at increasing tourists'™ safety in the mountains and on ski slopes. Connex Vodafone produced and installed safety mats and safety fences along the most dangerous portions of 9 ski slopes. The protection systems are built in accordance with international standards and have been installed on Poiana Brasov, Busteni, Sinaia, Borsa, Vatra Dornei, Baisoara, Valea Jiului, Arieseni and Semenic slopes.

'For several years now, Connex Vodafone has been contributing to reducing the risk of accidents in the mountains thanks to our partnership with Salvamont. Now we are glad to help winter sports fans have a better and safer experience on the Romanian ski slopes. Thus, we continue to support sports and stay close to Romanians and their needs', said Liliana Solomon, Chief Executive Officer Connex Vodafone.

Through the traditional partnership between Connex Vodafone and the National Association of Mountain Rescuers (Salvamont), tourists have direct phone access to the Salvamont National Dispatch. In case of emergency, all mobile users can access the dedicated phone number 0-SALVAMONT (0725 826 668). By calling 0-SALVAMONT, tourists can also get reliable and updated information about mountain routes and weather.

The total value of the two programs is over US $ 550,000.

According to Salvamont statistics, from April 2004 to April 2005, over 3000 tourists called 0-SALVAMONT, and Salvamont teams carried out more than 120 rescue operations.

As part of the sponsorship, Salvamont has also been provided by Connex Vodafone with mobile phones and an integrated communications solution, as well as with technical and winter equipment.
