Morpho (Safran group) is pleased to announce that its smart card production centers in Taubate, Brazil and Noida, India have achieved ISO 14001 certification following an external audit confirming their compliance with all of the relevant environmental protection laws and regulations.

The ISO 14001 standard has been in place since 1996 and specifies the actual requirements for an environmental management system. An environmental management system meeting the requirements of this standard is a tool that enables a company to identify and control the environmental impact of its activities, to improve its environmental performance continually and to implement a systematic approach to set environmental objectives and targets and control if those were achieved.

"The environmental aspect has become an important factor in our market", explained Paolo Villasco, Senior Vice President Sales Americas at Morpho, e-Documents Division. "Along with the certification, we have set strict environmental targets for this year – we plan to cut water and energy consumption by at least 5%."

Also Sanjeev Shriya, Managing Director – Syscom and Senior Vice President Asia Pacific of Morpho’s e-Documents Division, is proud of achieving the ISO 14001 certification for the Indian plant in Noida: "As one of the most modern smart card manufacturing centers in Asia and as the largest personalization centre in India, our mission is to also be a leader in environmental protection. The ISO certification confirms this commitment. Today, for example, 96% of all waste is being recycled. This year, we aim to reduce electricity and fuel consumption by 3%."

Over 90% of all smart cards produced by Morpho’s e-Documents Division now come from certified sites. This is an important step ahead in the company’s long term strategy to commit itself consequently to environment protection.
