Nokia said that it has been selected as sole supplier for its Cloud Native Packet Core for the whole Telia Company in the Nordic and Baltic regions, covering Sweden, Finland, Norway, Denmark, Estonia and Lithuania. It said this will serve the demands of enhanced mobile broadband and enable Telia to increase the automation of service introduction and operations, according Telecompaper. Nokia said its AirGile cloud-native design enables Telia to streamline engineering and operations to run on a common infrastructure in all six countries. This will contribute to Telia's ambition for competitive operations, lowering the cost of introducing and operating data services, accelerating time-to-market for differentiated services and expanding business productivity.

Nokia will begin deploying Telia's new core network in several data centres throughout the company's operations. The Nokia system anchors multi-technology access on wireless licensed, shared, unlicensed spectrum and fixed network technologies, and provides automated cloud networking with dynamic lifecycle management capabilities.

Sri Reddy, senior vice-president of Nokia's IP and Optical business, said the cloud packet core provides Telia with a solid foundational framework for the evolution of its 4G and the path towards 5G.
