Orange France will highlight 4G technology during the Roland Garros tennis tournament set to run from 25 May to 8 June. This is the tenth consecutive year that the operator is an official supplier of the French Open and it has signed up for another three years. Orange 4G will be available to spectators throughout the grounds, according Telecompaper. The operator will be demonstrating various services using 4G and fibre for the general public on its stand, including the Orange Bloc connected audio-video projector and other devices, the Orange TV tablet app and 3D printing. It will offer delayed coverage by France Televisions using fibre. A free Wi-Fi connection will be available for visitors who can post comments and photos of themselves on giant screens around the grounds.
For the first time this year, Orange and Peugeot will provide an onboard internet connection to passengers riding in the tournament’s 170 vehicles. The operator has joined forces with France Televisions, Alcatel-Lucent, Expway, Media Excel, Qualcomm and Sequans, in a full scale test of 4G multicast technology, a first in France.
