Orange has developed its own smartphone running Google's Android operating system and is preparing to release it in Spain, the UK, Poland and Romania from 12 April, writes Les Echos on its April 6th edition. The "Boston" touch-screen handset, which will not be offered in France initially, will sell for EUR 1 with a subscription plan, as Orange pushes to accelerate the adoption of the mobile internet and puts its mobile apps into more users' hands. Produced in China, the Boston only costs EUR 120 to manufacture, half as much as most of its competitors, and the operating system is free. According to the report, Orange's partner may be Taiwainese-owned Foxconn, which also produces the iPhone and some BlackBerry models.
