Orange Romania is in talks to acquire local independent cable operator Akta in a transaction that could reach EUR 150-200 million, writes local paper Ziarul Financiar citing several sources from the communications industry, according Telecompaper. Orange representatives did not comment on the information. Dinu Malacopol (photo), CEO and minority shareholder at Akta, did not wish to comment on the information but said "there is market interest from several operators" for the acquisition. He declined to say what operators are mulling over the acquisition.
 
The acquisition would bring Orange a fixed network that reaches up to the homes of its customers in more than 30 counties, with approximately 700,000 subscriptions to cable TV, internet and fixed telephony services. Akta's majority shareholder is the American-Asian investment fund Pinebridge.
