As connected TVs become more affordable and sell in greater numbers, OTT functionality is increasingly becoming the standard whether the consumer is seeking it or not. IMS forecasts that shipments of connected TVs will reach 180 million in 2016. It adds that connected TV shipments will outstrip shipments of all other consumer OTT devices by 2015.
Paul Erickson, Senior Analyst at IMS Research says: "As broadband penetration increases worldwide and OTT functionality becomes commonplace in all but the lowest-end TVs within the next two years, it sets the stage for connected TVs to be the most globally-significant OTT video device over time." source: Digital TV Europe News.
