Romanian operator RCS&RDS announced that it complies with its 900 MHz licence's coverage terms as it covered 57 rural localities by the deadline of 5 April as the telecommunications authority Ancom had demanded, according Telecompaper. RCS&RDS' Digi Mobil users from the 57 localities now receive 3G coverage thanks to the investments the company made in 3G network coverage through HSPA technologies. Following the procedure from 2012 through which Ancom awarded licences in the spectrum 800 to 900 MHz, Ancom imposed the operators the obligation to cover with mobile broadband by 5 April 2016 a number of localities that lacked coverage.

RCS&RDS said it is investing in the development of 3G and 4G networks to cover as many locations as possible. The operator wants to increase its 3G network's population coverage to 98 percent until 2019.

At present, Ancom is investigating if the four operators that obtained a 900 MHz licence, namely RCS&RDS, Orange Romania, Vodafone Romania and Telekom Romania, respected their licences' terms by covering a total of 676 rural localities with mobile communications by the imposed deadline.
