RCS&RDS passed the threshold of 2 million residential postpaid subscriptions on the mobile telephony segment. This means the operator reached a 25 percent market share on the segment of mobile telephony residential postpaid subscriptions, according Telecompaper. The 'Optim unlimited (Optim nelimiat)' mobile telephony tariff plan alone attracted 1 million residential customers since the operator's mobile telephony service was relaunched two years ago. The new pieces of information about the company's operations were presented by commercial director Ovidiu Bejan and RCS&RDS VP Valentin Popoviciu (photo) during a press conference held in the capital Bucharest. Investments in the 3G and LTE networks, their development, as well as the launch of new commercial offers attracted a large number of customers, they said.

The total mobile data traffic in a month reached 2.8 million GB, while the monthly internet traffic and fixed data was 204 million GB. The average traffic of a Digi Mobil end-user is almost 3 times higher than the average user of the market, RCS&RDS said. As part of a porting promotion, the operator gives 50 percent discounts off the prices of purchased smartphones to customers who join its Digi Mobil network and are not users of its Digi fixed services.

The company said its fixed internet customer base also passed 2 million and it also registered an accelerated advance on the cable TV market. From mid-2013 until the end of March, RCS&RDS won 300,000 cable TV customers, 450,000 fixed internet customers, 900,000 mobile telephony customers and almost 1.7 million mobile internet customers, but lost ground on the landline telephony and satellite television segments, local paper Ziarul Financiar writes citing RCS&RDS' representatives. At present, the company said it has 2.4 mobile internet customers.

The highest number of customer acquisitions in the last three years was recorded on the fixed internet segment, with corporate data showing that RCS&RDS has absorbed most of the market's advance. RCS&RDS won in three years ten times more customers than Telekom Romania and over three times more than UPC Romania.

During the press conference, the operator's representatives focused on the evolution of the number of subscribers to mobile telephony. Bejan and Popoviciu expect the company to see growth rates on the mobile telephony segment that are similar to those seen in previous years.
