Romanian operator RCS&RDS is the only operator of mobile telecommunication services in Romania that already meets some of the provisions of the so-called 'Big Brother' package of laws by requesting ID information from the persons who purchase prepaid cards, writes local paper Ziarul Financiar, according Telecompaper. The operator is requesting this information from new prepay end-users before the adoption of the package of laws will regulate the identification and retention of data traffic generated by end-users of electronic communications services. Unlike other mobile operators, RCS&RDS identifies applicants through their ID cards before selling them prepaid cards. These procedures were established on RCS&RDS' own initiative and have no equivalent on the local market of mobile prepaid cards. RCS&RDS is offering mobile services in Romania through its Digi Mobil division.
