Roland KOHLER, Vice Președinte REICHLE & de MASSARI, talked about building 99,99 availability in next generation networks at the Communications Day in Bucharest, on 10th of May 2007.

"I am glad to be here as a responsible manager for the carrier business worldwide in our company, a company based in Switzerland and now we have since more than one year opened office here in Romania.

This is not my only job, to be responsible for the carrier business, I have another one beside my main job at Reichle. I am a member of the Fiber Council of Europe, based in Brussels and there I am the commitee chair for Content and Revenue. It is a target of the Council to extend the members as well to the Eastern part of Europe.

To provide something it means secure networks. Shortly what we are doing. We are looking to the trends on the market and try to understand and implement in our products and solutions for the customer. Common understanding of what it means in the physical layer of the network.

Everybody is speaking about triple play, you heard it this morning, everybody is speaking about quaduple play, high definition TV, IPTV, network convergence and such things. This is an important point, but it means something that has big influence.

We have heard it, if you build up some highways, we should have the cars to drive.

I will change it, I will say the opposite. Of course we can build a lot of cars, but if you sell a car to customer and say now we sell you a nice car, with a lot of horse power, maybe you can drive in 10 years, because we do not have the highway to  hold it. So this is the point why we have to say this is a big influence what the contents makes of our networks.

We cannot only produce cars or content, we have to transmit it.

This has a big influence. The traffic on the road, you can see the most accidents happened during bad roads or badcrossings. This is the same in the network. If you have bad connectivities and a high bandwith, you could have problems in your network.

Our mission is to be number one for layer one in specific markets.

We are a Swiss company, I mentioned it at the beginning, and if we are doing something, we are doing it until all details are solved. And we are working in the passive components layer. But, there is another point: to do the right things for the passive layer, we have to manage them as well the active components, data transmission and application layer."
