Romania's telecommunications authority Ancom published a summary of the answers received in the public consultation on awarding the spectrum use rights in the frequency bands 694-790 MHz, 791-796 MHz/832-837 MHz, 1452-1492 MHz, 2530-2570 MHz/2650-2690 MHz, 3410-3420 MHz/3510-3520 MHz, and 3450-3465 MHz/3550-3565 MHz. During the public consultation, Ancom received answers from the 9 respondents, including 4 mobile communications operators, one global satellite communications operator, two radio equipment manufacturers, one end-user and a state institution, according Telecompaper. Ancom is further analysing the responses and will take into account the views, intentions and recommendations received during the consultation in grounding the decision on awarding frequency use rights in the above bands. The authority said it's now establishing a future action plan for awarding these rights.
The bands submitted to public consultation will contribute both to ensuring the spectrum resources needed for the efficient development of broadband communications services, in the context of the rampant mobile internet consumption, using the existing technologies, and to the future implementation of new generation technologies, also known as 5G or IMT-2020, Ancom said in a press release.
The consultation's aim was to obtain the interested parties’ views on their readiness to acquire spectrum use rights in the above bands, as well as on the appropriate period for organising such an auction. Moreover, the authority aimed to clarify a series of technical and economic aspects regarding access to these frequency bands and the awarding conditions. It also wanted to identify the elements that can influence results, such as the selection procedure design, minimum spectrum requirements, the maximum spectrum amounts available to be acquired by one operator in various frequency bands, the validity period of the awarded rights of use and specific obligations included in licences.
