Romania's president Klaus Iohannis asked the Parliament to review the law on setting up and organising the local telecom authority Ancom, writes local paper Ziarul Financiar, according Telecompaper. More specifically, the Parliament was told to revise the procedure for appointing and revoking the head of Ancom. The head of state claims that the amendments to the law still contain provisions that create uncertainty in its application. Ancom is currently run by former prime minister Sorin Grindeanu. He was appointed after the former president Adrian Dita resigned after a six-month term marked by numerous scandals that almost blocked the authority's activity.
In mid-January, Iohannis sent a letter of unconstitutionality on 15 January to the Constitutional Court which concerns the law approving the Government emergency ordinance no. 33/2017 which brought major changes to the ways in which the local telecommunications authority Ancom's head is appointed and dismissed.
