The smartphone market in Romania rose 4 percent year-on-year to 4.7 million units in 2018 in a context in which the market matures and the increases will not be generated by volumes, but by the sales of premium models, writes local paper Ziarul Financiar citing Samsung Romania's head Tiberiu Dobre. The sales value of smartphones delivered in 2018 increased 22 percent to about EUR 1.33 billion, according Telecompaper.
In the second half of the year, the market showed signs of fatigue, in the sense that the annual growth rate was not as strong as in the first half of the year, Dobre added. However, the market continued to grow throughout the year. The sales of South Korean giant's Romanian subsidiary rose 11 percent in 2017 to about EUR 520 million.
