Sony promises to bring the movie-viewing experience to your living room with its new VPL-VW90ES 3D home projector. The company held an IFA press conference at Berlin on Wednesday where it offered a sneak peek at the VPL-VW90ES. Sony, like other manufacturers are the IFA 2010, has announced a bevy of 3D products in several categoriesy.

The Sony VPL-VW90ES 3D projector leverages the same active shutter glasses technology being used in the company’s 3D TV line (think Sony Bravia) and promises to deliver a "natural" 3D experience that is gentle on the eyes. It is wel-known that watching 3D tires your eyes out, and if Sony can make it easier, it would be a USP for the product. Add on a dedicated amplifier and some speakers and you have the complete 3D home cinema environment.

A full HD 1080p 3D projection (540×405) is just one of the impressive specifications ofered by the Sony VPL-VW90ES. A dynamic contrast ratio of 150,000:1, powered by Sony’s Advanced Iris 3 technology, provides striking color quality and brightness levels.

Users will require a small sensor resembling a Sony Eye camera, which will have to be placed above the screen and will work in tandem with the 3D glasses. The 3D image thrown by the Sony projector can be as wide as 300 inches.

An enhanced SXRD 240Hz panel on the Sony VPL-VW90ES 3D home projector cuts down image distortion or "crosstalk." The 3D projector can switch between 2D and 3D mode and is also equipped to capture 2D video and simulating 3D images.

Users can customize the configuration on the Sony VPL-VW90ES 3D home projector according their requirements (what content they are viewing, the size of the room where the projector is being placed etc.). The projector is easy to install and is quiet with a low fan noise of just 22db0.

Another plus is that users can enjoy their favorite 3D games on the high-definition Sony VPL-VW90ES 3D home projector.

The Sony VPL-VW90ES 3D home projector will be priced at £6,000 (don’t forget to budget for speakers and amp, which would push up the total price for a full 3D home theater setup even more). That price translates to $9243 in the US. Not exactly an affordable 3D home theater projector for everyone for sure, but for home cinema enthusiasts, that might look relatively cheap indeed.

The Sony VPL-VW90ES 3D home projector will be available to the European market in November. There are no confirmed reports of a release date for rest of the world but Sony is expected to make an announcement during CEDIA 2010 later this month.
