The Indian government is looking at the possibility of roping in former CEO of Vodafone Arun Sarin (photo) to head state-owned Indian operator BSNL in a bid to turn around the company, reports The Hindu Business Line.

The move is in line with the recommendations of the Sam Pitroda committee, which had suggested appointing talented professionals to run the company. According to top government sources, a list of possible candidates is being prepared which will be vetted by a selection committee.

The government is also working towards taking BSNL's selection process out of the purview of the Public Enterprises Selection Board, which will enable it to offer a market-driven salary structure. The move will need cabinet approval after which an expert committee will be appointed for the selection process. The process may not be completed before the current BSNL's CMD Kuldeep Goyal retires in July. An insider may be given the job in the interim.
